The line work, composition, and emotion captured by Marcus To are fantastic, as evident in these WIP photos from his Instagram:
The coloring is also great, I love the ‘glow’ given to the telekinetic weapons of Betsy Braddock [This is a new character for me, and I want to learn more!] The fire Rachel Summers, and the lightning of Surge. The colors really jump off the page!
Story
As for the story, I love the Deadpool ‘cameo’ if you will..? And the setup of the potential for this X-Force crew to travel all over the world sealing these ‘fissures’. It actually reminds me of the Dark Dimension portion of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 (which I happen to currently be playing through). But it gives near infinite potential for stories, and I like that!
I’m not super familiar with these specific Marvel characters, but so far I’m interested in seeing the development of this ‘strike team’ and their chemistry.
The most interesting and funniest part of this story, was the sacrificial use of Deadpool at the end. It was a great example of ‘thinking on your toes’ by the leader of this strike team, and the delivery was fantastic and hilarious.
I look forward to meeting up with Black Panther in the next issue!
